Policy Reversals in AI Regulation
On January 21, 2025, President Donald Trump revoked a 2023 executive order by former President Joe Biden that aimed to mitigate AI-related risks to consumers, workers, and national security. Biden's order had mandated AI developers to share safety test results with the government prior to public release and required agencies to establish standards addressing risks associated with various threats. The Republican Party's 2024 platform criticized the order for stifling AI innovation. Despite this revocation, Trump did not overturn another executive order that provided federal support for advanced AI data centers. Reuters

AI Integration in Corporate Governance
At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Automation Anywhere's CEO, Mihir Shukla, highlighted the development of a boardroom AI agent capable of identifying patterns overlooked by experienced personnel. This AI agent symbolically earned an empty seat at the boardroom table, reflecting the increasing role of AI in corporate decision-making processes. Additionally, professional services firm EY is exploring new commercial models that consider AI's influence, such as outcome-based charges rather than traditional time and resource-based billing. Challenges in AI Historical Knowledge
A recent study revealed that AI chatbots, including OpenAI's GPT-4, Meta's Llama, and Google's Gemini, struggle to accurately answer high-level history questions. Tested using the Hist-LLM benchmark, GPT-4 Turbo achieved only 46% accuracy, slightly above random guessing. The models often extrapolate from prominent historical data but falter on obscure details, indicating a need for improved training data and algorithms to enhance AI's historical knowledge. Experts have expressed concerns about a potential AI bubble, predicting it may burst in 2025. While AI continues to attract substantial investments and drive technological advancements, some analysts caution that the rapid pace of development and high expectations may lead to market corrections.
